Workshops: Wednesday, April 29 - Wednesday, September 30, 2020 - 7-9:30 pm

April 29 and September 30 (fifth Wednesdays) Amina will teach how to dance to improvised drum solos with accompaniment by Susu. Fee for those classes will be $40 each in advance or $45 day of - if space available.

In each workshop class you will learn traditional and trending drum solo movements and accents and will learn to interpret the drum riffs that go with chosen drum rhythms. You will learn how to build an exciting drum solo that really goes somewhere. It’s about communicating. It’s about the dancer and the drummer mutually inspiring and creating excitement and passions for the audience It’s about understanding how rhythms and rhythmic structure work. Maybe even learning some drum solo formulas. It’s about body language - yours and the drummer’s - in order to be inside the drum. It’s about performing, having fun and even playing with the rhythms.. It’s about dancing and clean moves but not about memorized drum solo combinations because it’s especially about learning how to anticipate and improvise. It’s a lot of things and you’ll get to take all these tools and ideas home to practice and work with. Come and learn to dance a drum solo from Amina’s point of view. And maybe, for sure, Susu will add her thoughts and ideas too. Some favorite drum solos may be shown on screen after class - time permitting.
