The Pasha Band

The Pasha Band was formed by Husain Dixon Resan from Irag and originally consisted of Husain on vocals and playing the oud, Younes Makboul from Morocco on violin, Jelaleddin Takesh from Azerbaijan on kanun, Susu Pampanin on tabla and Amina Goodyear on riq and duf.

Together the five musicians played many venues mostly throughout Northern California and most consistently at the Al Masri Restaurant in SanFrancisco. As a group the Pasha Band also recorded live on Susu Pampanin’s album “Nostalgia.”

Husain is from Diwayniya, a city in central Iraq. He came to San Francisco after Desert Storm and has been here ever since playing the violin, the oud and on occasion, the upright bass. He played the oud since he was 14 and recalls how he even made one. . He has also written songs and composed music, some of which have appeared in sound tracks of films. He is also an an accomplished vocalist, a music instructor and an oud maker.

Besides founding Pasha Band, Husain has also performed with Aswat and the Georges Lammam Ensemble. He also toured with the Gorillaz, a British musical project created in1998.
